Setting Up Your Virtual City (SimCity)

SimCity File Submittal Instructions

This year the Competition will be using SimCity 4.

The SimCity file must be RECEIVED by the "end of business day" on MONDAY, JANUARY 14, 2013. This is the absolute last day to submit. No late submittals will be accepted.

Future City teams will be required to send a burned CD (* or thumbdrive) containing the city's region folder. Teams are encouraged to change their region's folder name to match their city name.

* Teams submit thumbdrives containing the region folders (instead of a CD). The thumbdrive will be returned to the team on competition day.

How to burn a SimCity 4 Region CD in Windows XP

All SimCity 4 regions are stored in a separate folder under "My Documents\SimCity 4\Regions" or "C:\Documents and Settings\User Name\SimCity 4\Regions" where User Name is the login name of the computer.

After locating the region folder, right click on the name of the region that contains the team's city. Select "Send To" then the name of the CD Burner on the computer. Once the drive is selected, a window will come up showing the files being copied to a temporary location.

Next a popup window will appear in the toolbar saying that there are files waiting to be written to a CD. The CD can be burned by clicking the icon or by doing the following:

• Open "My Computer"
• Right click on the CD Burner that the region folder was sent to
• Select "Write these Files to CD"

A window will appear that will guide you through the rest of the CD burning process.

If you are using Windows Vista there is a Microsoft tutorial here that explains how to burn a CD. Just locate the SimCity regions folder using the steps above and then follow the tutorial. (Note: You will want to use the Mastered Format)

If you are unable to send your SimCity region by mail, contact Louis (louis.tibbs@washingtonfuturecity.org) and he can make other arrangements. Keep in mind that your disk will need to be RECEIVED by "end of business day" Monday, January 9, 2012!
